Cultural District Virtual Tour
Photo by J. E. Clark Just outside the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History's main (north) entrance, this lifesize model of an Acrocanthosaurus greets visitors with what it calls a "Fort Worth Friendly" Smile. So far, nobody has wanted to question that. This fast moving predator was common throughout this part of the country during the middle Cretaceous period.
Inside the museum, you can learn about many ongoing projects in the area to excavate fossilized remains of this and other Texas dinosaurs. Although most of Fort Worth was under an inland sea during the time of the dinosaurs, dinosaur fossils HAVE been discovered within the city limits. Ones discovered by a 12 year old boy several years ago are on display inside.
While inside, your younger kids are going to want to participate in the "Dino Dig" in the enclosed courtyard. Here they can dig for real fossils and keep what they find. While digging, they will be watched over by the Tenontosaurus. Nothing to worry about here; this one's a "veggiesaurus."
Be sure to check out the cafe and gift shop while you're inside.
Ramp access to the museum is at this entrance.
