Memorial Park at Camp Bowie Blvd. and Crestline Dr. honors
the men of the
36th
Infantry Division who trained here before this area became
Fort Worth's Cultural District. Camp
Bowie only lasted three years (1917-1919), but the impression
it made on Fort Worth is lasting. Photos of Camp Bowie during
WWI can be found in the Cultural District Visitors Information
Center and at Mama's Pizza Parlor on Camp
Bowie Blvd. Information about the army camp can also be
found at the Fort Worth Museum
of Science and History. The famous 'T'
Patch insignia is still worn by members of the 36th Infantry
today. In addition to ones linked above, there are several
additional historical markers located in this park:
George Washington
POW/MIA Soldiers
World War II Veterans
and the Soldiers of the 36th Infantry
Division that trained here during World War I. This bronze sculpture titled simply "Duty" by native Texan Barvo Walker brings home the tragedy of war as a doughboy assists a fallen comrade. | |
